Dr. Abdullah Ibrahim caresses the piano with so much
dexterity that both jazz and classical music are instantly
merged into a sort of graceful soliloquy almost as immediately
as he sets his fingers onto the Piano.
The great master of jazz began his career as a professional
pianist in the mid 50s and ever since has become an
iconoclastic figure in music. However, It was the traditional
music of Africa that he first began interpreting but
gradually succumbed to the divine call of jazz and classical
music
Dr. Ibrahim has enthralled listeners for
decades by his highly technical and yet mellifluous
compositions. His music often combines the rhythmic
African melodies and the fundamental Essence of classical
music, a combination of which, gives Abdullah’s
music an air of authenticity. One of the finest living
jazz legends of the past epoch, Dr. Ibrahim, by
amalgamating the music of two cultures, has thenceforth
been able to create a laudable style through which his
beliefs and traditions could be imparted to the listeners.
