New York native Bob Brozman
is one of the best bottleneck guitarists of this coming
age.
Brozman, after having taken up guitar at the age of six,
still strums it with that solicitousness and passion that
is nowhere to be found BUT in a true genius.
He studied music and ethnomusicology at
the Washington University. Submerging himself not only
in the theoretic and practical aspects of music but
simultaneously developing an unique identity for various
cultures and traditions which is realized when his musicianship
goes into play.
Brozman is unique in his own way in that
he is an artist, an author, and at the same time he
travels vigorously and culls extensive information to
widen his knowledge on the music of different cultures.
Brozman studies with impetuosity the music
of other cultures that he has untrammeled. Especially
of those containing a vast array of influences ranging
from the elements of blues, jazz, Sega, Calypso (West
Indian music in syncopated African rhythm),Gypsy swing,
and even the modern hip-hop.
His hunger for various cultures is unquenchable
and is almost reflected in all of his songs. His erudition
on ethnomusicology helps him to to revere and give enough
attention to a varied culture in his own music. Besides
touring and recording immensely. Bob also does what
one would say a divine deed: teaching. He teaches ethnomusicology
at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.
Among his many accomplishments as an academic,
a musician, and a composer, Mr. Brozman is also a humanist.
He has created a foundation that helps procure playable
instruments, tuning mechanisms, and other musical equipment
for non-western musicians - an issue which laid latent
for many years.
It is Mr. Brozman's blend of musical expertise,
experimentation with different cultural flavors of music,
understanding of musical theory and the traditions behind
them, and a genuine desire to share his love of music
with his students and the world at large that illuminates
the generosity and passion of a true genius.
