Mr.Rabih's unique take on world music has gained loyal fan following throughout the world, celebrating his concepts and manifestations of an old culture Rabih Abou Khalil, this Beirut-born oud player, flautist and composer made his mark as an innovative and brilliant world musician years before world music became an international trend. His signature style has been to fuse the staccato beats of Arab and North African music with the riffs of big-band jazz.

This inventive instrumentalist has combined seemingly incongruous arrangements such as swinging horn octet backed by a eastern percussionist and a western drummer. His transcending of musical genres and cultural boundaries has attracted musicians from around the world to collaborate with him. Mr. Khalil's international style has won him an international audience-his compositions have been celebrated and has seduced audiences worldwide from locations ranging from Montreal to Taiwan, from Damascus to Paris.

Though he reaches beyond the limits imposed by genres and simplified categorization, Mr. Khalil's music is steeped in the rich traditions of Middle Eastern music. His compositions follow the spiraling detours of Arabian tales and take unexpected turns that culminate
in startling and sublime resolutions. From unique life experiences that drives his compositions to the border horizon evolving in the 21st century.

This is the real deal – Throw in a horn octet (tuba’s do make a comeback), a classical cello player a middle eastern percussionist and a jazz drummer with a Lebanese oud player leading the band?
Impossible? – No! To Much acclaim now “Cactus of Knowledge” is cited as “The Recording” that finally broke the latent hurdles that faced both the world music and the jazz scene,Rabih’s signature oud technicality inter mingles with the fierce horn section led by Tom Varner on Trumpet, Avant Garde Saxophonist Ellery Eskelin, Italian Clarinet Virtuoso Gabrielle Mirabassi and French Tuba extraordinaire Michel Godard just to name a few.The band swings over number’s like “The Lewinsky March” that is almost impossible to decode in time (try counting in 6+5+5+3/16), the band definitely puts on a class act.A definite Masterpiece!
